3 Axis Inc. has some very exciting news we would love to share!! We have been chosen as the exhibit fabricator for the 2013 Battle of the Brains build out. Battle of the Brains is an educational competition where schools can earn grant money for STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. 3 Axis Inc. will be bringing to life the great ideas of Leawood Elementary and Olathe North High School. We are proud to be creating the next great exhibits for Science City here at Kansas City’s Union Station.
A special thanks to the Burns & McDonnell Foundation for their generosity and dedication to education.

3 Axis inc. had the pleasure of working on a simple yet striking ceiling installation at the local Kansas City fine dining eatery Bluestem Restaurant. The beautifully renovated restaurant was the creation of David Herron of Herron and Partners. The ceiling topography is a nod to the well loved Kansas Flint Hills of eastern Kansas. There was a great write-up on Bluestem in Feast Magazine.

3 Axis inc was commissioned by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 2014. We were tasked to create a replica ceiling panel for a Jain Shrine, which was under restoration in their conservation lab. Utilizing a 3D laser scanner, 3 Axis scanned portions of the shrine, using the preexisting patterns as templates. The scanned data was reassembled, sculpted, and refined digitally to create a new pattern. The pattern was finally carved into a Medex panel using a small (.0625″ diameter) bit their CNC machine. These complicated hand carvings were quite a challenge but ultimately the panel turned out beautiful.
The Nelson Jain exhibit is running through May 29, 2016.
